1. Who we are
Albania Rental is a small car-rental company based in Tirana, Albania. We are the data controller for the personal data described on this page. You can reach us by email at info@albania-rental.com or on WhatsApp at +355 69 662 0066.
We process personal data in line with Albanian Law no. 124/2024 "On the protection of personal data" (Ligji nr. 124/2024 "Për mbrojtjen e të dhënave personale") and, for customers who live in the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
2. What data we collect and why
Online booking form. When you request a car we ask for your name, phone number, email (optional), flight number, notes, rental dates, the car you chose and your language. We use this to prepare the car and confirm the rental with you.
At handover. Before you drive away we record the details needed for the rental contract: your identity document or passport and your driving licence (number, issue and expiry dates, a photo of the document), date of birth, address, the licence of a second driver if there is one, your signature, and photos of the car at pickup and return. This is required by law for the rental contract and is what we rely on if there is damage, an accident or a traffic fine.
Payment records. We keep the amount, payment method and date of each payment. We do not store card numbers.
WhatsApp. If you write to us on WhatsApp, the messages stay in our WhatsApp account so we can follow up on your booking.
3. Legal basis
- Performance of the rental contract – the booking and handover data are needed to rent you a car.
- Legal obligations – identifying the driver for traffic fines, and keeping accounting records.
- Legitimate interest – handling damage claims and preventing fraud.
4. Who else sees your data
We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising. To run the business we use a few service providers:
- Google Firebase (Google Ireland Ltd) – our database, login system and file storage. Data is kept in the EU (europe-west1, Belgium).
- Anthropic (USA) – when we photograph your licence or ID, the image is sent once, automatically, to read the fields of the document so we do not type them by hand. This is API use: Anthropic does not store the image or use it for training.
- Telegram – our staff receive a daily summary with the name, phone number and flight of each customer being met the next day.
- Hostinger – hosting of this website, in the EU.
- Contract copy – after signing we send you a link to your contract via WhatsApp or email. The link is private but can be opened by anyone who has it, so please do not forward it.
5. How long we keep it
Booking and contract data are kept for as long as Albanian accounting and tax law require. Photos of your documents and the public contract link are kept for a limited time: the link stops working 90 days after it is created. We are working on automatic deletion of document photos 12 months after the rental ends.
6. Your rights
You can ask us at any time to see the data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it (where we are not required by law to keep it), or to object to how we use it. Write to info@albania-rental.com or message us on WhatsApp and we will reply within a month.
You also have the right to complain to the Albanian Commissioner for the Right to Information and Protection of Personal Data (Komisioneri për të Drejtën e Informimit dhe Mbrojtjen e të Dhënave Personale, idp.al). If you live in the EU, you can complain to the data protection authority in your own country.
7. Cookies
This website uses no tracking cookies and no analytics. Firebase may store technical identifiers in your browser that are needed to complete a booking. We use no advertising cookies.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this page when our services or the law change. The date at the top shows the current version. For significant changes we will inform customers who have an active booking.
